Summer Two: Charlotte Nonprofit Internship
The second summer experience allows Levine Scholars to combine their academic and civic engagement interests with their natural inclination to give back to the community. Students spend approximately five weeks interning with a nonprofit organization in the Charlotte area. They learn the challenges and fortitude required to succeed as a nonprofit organization in economically difficult times, as well as the intangible rewards that come from serving others.
Benefits of Completing a Nonprofit Internship
During their internships, Levine Scholars meet members of the boards of directors and become familiar with the inner workings of large, established nonprofit organizations and new, entrepreneurial start-ups. They are exposed to activities in development, grant reading and writing, volunteer coordination and marketing. Some students continue to volunteer with their internship sites after the summer is over, while others apply what they have learned to develop the $8,000 civic engagement grant available to Levine Scholars.
