Nomination / Application Process

The Levine Scholars Program has a multi-step scholarship nomination/application process that includes the following:

NOMINATION

Students must first be nominated or self-nominated for the scholarship to gain access to the application.

  • Counselor/College Advisor Nomination: Students must be nominated online by their school counselor or college advisor at their current high school. There is no limit to the number of students that can be nominated from each high school. Homeschooled students can be nominated by a professor or teacher who is not related to the student or submit a self-nomination. The online nomination form will be available on August 15. Nominations will be accepted until October 15.
    • For school counselors and college advisors that are currently in our system, you will receive an email on August 15 with the nomination form.  If you have not submitted a nomination within the past three years, we ask that you complete a short verification form to access the nomination form. This form opens each cycle in August.
  • Self-Nomination: Starting in Fall 2020, our program introduced a self-nomination process for high school seniors.  The mission behind developing this process is to provide access to high-achieving students applying from high schools that historically have not participated in the school nomination process. Students are asked to complete a short questionnaire to assess their eligibility/competitiveness on the self-nomination form.  This will be accessible to a student on our student information page.

APPLICATION

Nominees must submit the general university application and submit the Levine Scholars Program application.    

  • Application for Admission: Students should visit admissions to learn about the online freshman admissions application. Undergraduate Admissions Applications must be received by November 1.
  • Completion of a Levine Supplemental Scholarship Application: Once students have been nominated, they will receive an email directing them to the Levine Scholars Portal. Here, they will find the supplemental scholarship application that includes the recommender information, three essay prompts, and the activities list. Students should complete Section A of the application immediately so that emails can be sent to those individuals who will be writing letters of recommendation. The entire supplemental application must be completed and submitted online by November 15.
  • Submission of Online Recommendations: Students are required to have two recommendations submitted on their behalf. The first required recommendation should be from someone with direct knowledge of their academic potential and accomplishments; the second required recommendation should be from someone with direct knowledge of their commitment to community service and capacity for ethical leadership. Students will be asked to submit the names and email addresses of their two required recommenders on the application. The recommenders will be emailed a link to the online recommendation form immediately. The recommendation submission deadline is November 15.

HONORS APPLICATION INFORMATION

The Levine Scholars Program is a stand alone-program. We work closely with the Honors College, but we are separate and distinct, with different requirements and responsibilities for our respective students. Levine Scholarship applicants who would like to be considered for the Honors College and scholarships associated with it should complete the separate Honors College application by their priority deadline. Levine applicants who move forward as semifinalists are automatically admitted into the University Honors Program in the Honors College. Arts+Architecture Honors and Business Honors may later review these applicants and offer selected admission to their programs.

Applying for other Scholarships

The NinerScholars Portal is the university’s central resource for all students to apply for other merit or need-based scholarships. This opportunity is open to all admitted students through a separate application process. We encourage all students applying for the Levine Scholars Program to also apply to other scholarships offered by UNC Charlotte.
