Major: Philosophy and Political Science
Driven by a passion for cities, community, and public service, Hattie Rose Hamrick is studying philosophy and political science with minors in legal studies and public administration and a pre-law concentration. Her academic interests include transportation, urban and economic development, placemaking, local government and ancient philosophy. As a Community Development Intern at Charlotte Center City Partners, Hattie Rose gained firsthand experience in the collaborative work of creating a more vibrant, inclusive and connected urban core. She hopes to build a career centered around strengthening communities and helping shape the future of urban landscapes where residents, workers and visitors can thrive.
Beyond the classroom, Hattie Rose serves as a volunteer campus tour guide with Niner Guides, a preceptor for two sections of MATH 1102: Intro to Mathematical Thinking, a Visit Guest Relations Intern with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and the Director of Academic Affairs for Alpha Delta Pi. She also regularly volunteers with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Charlotte, reflecting her commitment to giving back to the Charlotte community. Outside of campus, Hattie Rose enjoys exploring Charlotte, attending Hornets basketball games Uptown, reading and backpacking. The scholar completed a 25-day National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) expedition through Wyoming’s Wind River Range the summer before her first year at UNC Charlotte. This experience further strengthened her appreciation for resilience, leadership and the communities built through shared challenges.
As a Levine Scholar, Hattie Rose is interested in finding ways to connect her academic interests with meaningful service and her love for the Queen City. She hopes to continue exploring opportunities that allow her to combine critical thinking, service and hands-on experience while contributing to the communities around her.
