Jadyn Becoats
Class of 2027
Hometown: Greensboro, NC
Major: Elementary Education
Jadyn Becoats is a first-year Elementary Education major with a minor in Urban Youth and Communities from Greensboro, North Carolina. During her 4 years as a high school student, Jadyn understood the importance of a balanced life which included a quality education and commitment to community service. With several leadership positions as well as over 350 service learning hours, her volunteerism centered around helping underserved youth who found themselves in a Teen Court diversion program that had committed a misdemeanor. Jadyn believes in giving youth a second chance when mistakes are made and therefore wants to advocate for children in similar situations in the Charlotte area. Since there is a Teen Court in the Charlotte area, Jadyn would like to partner with city and county officials to expand Teen Court as her non-profit internship. Her goal is to decrease the number of African American young men who enter the Criminal Justice System and never exit. This program will hopefully begin to address the significant number of men who find themselves as victims in a system that is rooted in racial injustice and racism. Over the next 4 years, Jadyn is eager to learn more about the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and the Criminal Justice System in hopes to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline and increase the opportunities to advance the cradle-to-college pathway.
