Mia Jamma graduated with majors in Economics and International Studies with a concentration in Development & Sustainability, alongside a minor in Latin American Studies. Her academic pursuits included a semester abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she enhanced her Spanish and deepened her understanding of Latin American political economies; this international exposure complements her focus on global economic systems, particularly within emerging markets. Furthermore, at the Harvard World Model United Nations conference in Manila, Philippines, Mia debated international economic policies and researched the roles of the IMF and World Bank in developing countries.
Mia engaged in environmental advocacy through her civic engagement project with the Charlotte Youth Climate Coalition and CleanAIRE NC. Her leadership in organizing the Charlotte Youth Climate Coalition earned her the title of “Student Champion for Climate Justice” by the APHA. Further demonstrating her commitment to fostering inclusive environments, Mia was recognized as an Honoree for Contributions to Gender Balance and International Understanding, reflecting her dedication to creating an environment where diversity thrives.
Her scholarly contributions include co-authoring a research paper titled “An Exploratory Study of Digital Inequities and Work in the Redevelopment of a Southeastern American City,” which examines socioeconomic divides and their impact on economic development. Additionally, Mia presented her research at the TedXCraverRoad Countdown and the State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium.
