Sonia Birla

Sonia Birla is triple majoring in Finance, Geography and International Studies at UNC Charlotte. She is deeply engaged in community and sustainability initiatives, having founded the Campus Sustainability Alliance and serving as the Vice Chair for the Charlotte Green Initiative. Sonia has led efforts to implement student-driven green projects through her role as Sustainability Liaison with the Student Government Association, fostering collaboration across campus. As president of the South Asian Student Association, she organized large cultural events that brought together diverse groups of students. She interned at Charlotte Center City Partners during her first summer and has studied abroad in Germany and Thailand. Sonia also worked at VHB, where she contributed to transportation and infrastructure projects across the state. Leaning into her interest in urban development, Sonia is a innovation Incubator Fellow at UrbanCORE, focusing on projects aimed at improving community spaces in Charlotte. She remains passionate about building sustainable, inclusive environments through collaboration with campus and the community.
