Majoring in Biology on the pre-med track\nHome town: Albuquerque, New Mexico \n\nRead More Bio:\nSophia is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology on the pre-medicine track. Her aspiration to serve her community led her to volunteer and later lead the tutoring program at the Immigrant Refugee and Resource Village of Albuquerque (IRRVA). Through this program, she tutored immigrant and refugee youth, exemplifying her dedication to social causes and her belief in the power of education to change lives, fostering empowerment and support for underserved members of society. In exploring her interest in biology, Sophia interned at the University of New Mexico, where she researched the effects of climate change on the environment. Furthering her studies in biology, Sophia participated in and performed several mock orthopedic surgeries via the Perry Initiative Program. In this program, Sophia found a new passion in empowering women to pursue STEM-related fields. In her volunteer work at Carolina Breast Friends Pink House and her current biology coursework, Sophia looks forward to pursuing opportunities in cancer research during her undergraduate studies while also giving back to the North Carolina community.
