Summer Experiences

Each summer offers unique opportunities for scholars to explore their personal values, develop leadership and professional skills and apply their ideas in real world and global settings. Each scholar has the flexibility to tailor these experiences to align with their academic interests and career goals, preparing them to lead with purpose and impact and to be more competitive when applying to top-tier graduate and professional programs and preparing for the job market.

About the Summer Experiences

The summer experiences have two overarching goals: first, to give Levine Scholars the tools they will need to examine their personal identity and align their choices in programs of study and out-of-class activities with their strengths and values; and second, to give Scholars an opportunity to put their ideas into practice in a range of environments. The Levine summer experiences consist of a pre-college leadership expedition, a nonprofit internship in Charlotte, a pre-professional internship and an international experience.

National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS)

Each year, entering Levine Scholars participate in a custom-designed outdoor wilderness expedition that is focused on leadership and team building.

The second summer experience provides Levine Scholars with an opportunity to integrate their academic and civic engagement interests with their natural inclination to give back to the community.

In the third summer experience, Levine Scholars participate in a career-related or leadership experience designed to complement their programs of study and prepare them for post-undergraduate aspirations in their selected fields.
